Culture has a key role for democratic development in South-Eastern Europe
Forum Belgrade – "A Soul for Europe"
Forum Belgrade is building on the success and the supra-regional influence of the first and second Belgrade Forums held in March 2007 and October 2008. It aims to strengthen the dialogue between civil society and political decision-makers. The Forum Belgrade serves as a role model for the whole Balkan region and exemplifies the message that such an activity organised by local civil society initiatives in cooperation with European partners can bring about stabilizing effects and practical change. It shows that collaboration between civil society and (local) authorities works and triggers a snowball effect in the region and beyond. Simultaneously, Forum Belgrade is developing into a permanent initiative constituting an International Advisory Board including political decision-makers and personalities from culture, business and the media from Serbia and Europe.
Organisers
Forum Belgrade “A Soul for Europe” is an initiative of the local NGO Kulturni Front Beograd in co-operation with the "A Soul for Europe" Initiative.

Can film do something for a new identity, a new soul of Europe? Of course it can, because it shows the European people how different they are.
> ISTVÁN SZABÓ, Film Director
Our European cultural identity can be described in such a way that our different cultures are respected and accepted, and the differences endured. If we do so, then we respect each other as Europeans and can build up confidence. In the end, culture is a foundation for peace.

Culture is a powerful instrument for development of individual and society. Culture and education support democratic and economic reforms. They are at the heart not only of the national but also of the personal success.

Even when we think about the very word Europe and when we think about what's in it, it has to be a project for the citizens and not just a project for the elite.
