Consequences for Europe - drawn by civil society actors and politicians
The Berlin Conference - "A Soul for Europe"
The Berlin Conference brings together 500 individuals from the cultural sector, politicians and representatives of the media, the business world and other areas of society. The Berlin Conference is as a civil society platform to define and initiate concrete common steps in order to strengthen the cultural component of the European development.
The Berlin Conference is focussing special attention on young Europeans. The Berlin Conference is one of the very few platforms, that give floor young civil society actors to discuss live with top-ranking representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, national governments and European artists like Wim Wenders. More than 50 outstanding young individuals from the European Union and beyond contributed their experiences and ideas to each conference.
The Berlin Conference has already inspired a number of follow-up events such as those in Paris (May 2005), Budapest (November 2005), Granada (April 2006), Lisbon (September 2007) and many others. It also became the model for the Forum X conferences organized by local NGO's in Belgrade, Pécs, Lyon, Skopje, Sofia, Cluj, Guimarães, Prague, Prishtina, Istanbul and other cities.
The Berlin Conference takes place every two years in the Dresdner Bank at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. The next Berlin Conference is scheduled for November 2010.
